Pearls Pearls Pearls

Last Sunday, I went pearl shopping with Cory and Jessica and Deepika, Rashida, and Hetel. It was a very successful shopping day and lots of fun. We went to Hetel's cousin's shop and he was very helpful and super nice. We learned about the different grades of pearls (do you want double A (good quality) or triple A (the best quality)), we learned about the luster of pearls. The cost of pearls depends on weight and size. The bigger the pearl, the more expensive. The heavier the pearl, it costs more. Very little flaws and perfect shape means you're spending a lot! When you look at double A quality vs. triple A you can tell the difference when they are side by side. When you look at double A alone, it still looks very pretty. I ended up buying double A so that I could buy A LOT of necklaces. Triple A was very nice but heck I wanted lots of different necklaces but didn't want to spend a fortune. Before we made our purchase, we went to the big fancy store where you get a "40% Deloitte discount". We left immediately. They were not helpful and not nice and the store was hot! We went back to the other store and spent about 3 hours there deciding on which pearls we were going to buy.

After pearl shopping we went to this awesome veg restaurant and got some "snacks" and nasty dessert. My favorite was chole bhature. It was big puffy bread with a spicy chickpea curry. Super good. Sort of tasted like a chili. And the girls we went with said we had to try the "most happening dish" which is pani puri. All the ladies rave about it. It's basically a hollow ball of bread that you punch a hole in, you fill it with masala and then add a sweet water and a spicy water to it. It was okay. The water component of it was very strange. We also had spicy chili noodles. Those were bomb! And finally for dessert we tried Indian sweets. Cory got this nasty dessert called sandhesh. It literally tasted like sand. The girls told him to only take half but he put the whole sweet treat in his mouth. Bad move. He had the funniest look on his face an said it was awful. He then convinced Jessica and I to try it. We split one and all nastiness erupted. It started off good and then got very bad very quick. I took a selfy to document this "new and exciting" experience. Overall, another great day exploring India. Tomorrow: Kurta shopping!
